Kara Van Malssen is Senior Consultant at AVPreserve where she works with diverse clients including WWE, MLBAM, the Library of Congress, and Carnegie Hall on enterprise initiatives in metadata management, digital/media asset management, and digital preservation. Kara is also an expert in disaster response and recovery for media assets, which began in 2005 when she helped several institutions in New Orleans recover their damaged audiovisual collections in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. More recently, Kara led the recovery of a flood-damaged multimedia collection at Eyebeam Art+Technology Center in New York City following Superstorm Sandy. She has taught workshops on disaster preparedness and recovery all over the world, and is the author of the book chapter on disaster prevention, preparedness, and response in the ARSC Guide to to Audio Preservation (2015).
